Very popular and very successful star of 60s. Classically trained dancer, started as a child artist, and was thrown out of Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959) for not having the star appeal. Became famous with Nasir Hussain's Dil Deke Dekho (1959) with Shammi Kapoor. Probably the most successful actress of all-time.

Retired from movies to direct TV serials. On numerous occassions was accused by other actresses working with her in a movie that she tried to cut down their roles.
