Leading actor of 50s and early 60s, famous for his portrails of religious/historical figures, like, Baiju Bawra, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Mirza Ghalib, Angulimala, Mahiwal, Shuk, Tansen, Kavi Kalidas, Baj Bahadur, etc. Heavily invested all his money into the making of Jahan Ara (1964). The movie bombed, fortune was gone and career as a leading actor was over. Spent last 3 decades doing bits n pieces roles in movies to survive.

It is said that during his superstar years, he would drive to a shooting in a separate car, and his food for lunch would follow in another car. Was a well-read man, and spent later yrs reading books from personal library.
