One of the finest actresses of 50s and 60s and an exceptional dancer. Started career in Bollywood at an early age of 17 and never looked back. Got married to Raj Kapoor's personal physician and retired from movies. Had a brief career in politics. Did most of her memorable work with Dilip Kumar.

1951 - 1970

Refused to accept Best Supporting Actress award for Devdas (1955) because she thought her role demanded the best actress award. Refused to do roles of mother types, and hence passed on Yash Chopra's Deewaar, and the role was eventually given to Nirupa Roy.
