Shikha Ghosh (Shilpa Shetty) gets married to Mumbai-based Ranjeet Kapoor (Kay Kay Menon) and shortly thereafter gives birth to a girl, Rucha. She sacrifices her personal life and career to be a home-maker while Ranjeet continues to be employed in a senior level. Both grow apart, and Ranjeet starts to be negligent. Shikha meets with a struggling stage actor, Akash Sharma (Shiney Ahuja), both are attracted to each other and continue to meet secretly. Shikha feels guilty about her affair with Akash and is on the verge of giving up when Ranjeet gives her the devastating news that he is in love with his Secretary, Neha (Kangana Ranaut), who is the room-mate of Shruti (Konkona Sen Sharma), Shikha's unmarried sister.
