In order to avenge the death of her husband (Parikshat Sahni) by Kala Daku (Sadashiv Amrapurkar), Mrs Jaswant Singh (Anjana Mumtaz) entrusts her young son Mangal Singh (Naseeruddin Shah) to Hari Singh (Ranjeet), so that he can train him, make him tough, so that he can avenge his dad's death. Years later, the young child has grown to be a strong young man, and he, with the help of two others (Sunny Deol and Chunky Pandey) seek out the dreaded Kala Daku, and then complications arise when they discover that one of them is not what he claims to be, and the other is a convict.
