Janaki(Jaya Prada) brings up her younger sister Lalitha(Sridevi) after their parents died. Rambabu(Jeetendra) comes to the village on completion of his education. While Janaki falls in love with Rambabu he loves Lalitha. His mother Parvati, however, wants Janaki as her daughter-in-law. Rambabu promises Janaki that he would take her as his wife on return. Lalitha knows this development and withdraws in favour of her elder sister, Janaki by marrying some village goon(Shakti Kapoor) and going away. Rambabu marries Janaki but they are childless. Lalitha's husband was arrested on their marrige day and was confined in jail for a long time. Lalitha was pregnant with Rambabu's child. What next?
