Famous for suspense thrillers, was known to be a women's director. Gave superhits with Dev Anand, Sadhana, Manoj Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan between 50s and 70s. All movies in the last yrs of career failed, leading to drinking, and sad demise. A disciple of Guru Dutt, famous for song picturizations.
