Started career as a child artist in 60s and went on to do a number of movies in South before making her Bollywood debut as a leading actress in Solwa Sawan (1979). Formed a pair with Jeetendra and went on to do many movies with him in 80s. Clearly established as the number 1 actress with Nagina (1986), Mr India (1987), Chalbaaz (1988) and Chandni (1989). Wasnt very successful in 90s and retired during late 90s after marriage. Had a fierce rivarly and a cold war with fellow southern actress, Jayapradha.

Declined Jurassic Park and Beta (Madhuri Dixit) roles. Originally, Baazigar was written for Sridevi doing roles of both Kajol and Shilpa Shetty. Never shakes hands or hugs colleagues in public, always says Namaste by folding 2 hands.
