Became a household name with Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Guddi (1971). Had a string of memorable performances with Sanjeev Kumar in Koshish, Anamika, Naya Din Nayi Raat, Nauker, etc. Kept supporting then boyfriend Amitabh thru a time of struggle, before he eventually broke thru in Zanjeer (1973). Retired from movies after marriage only to do Silsila (1981) and again for 20 yrs before coming back to do character roles.
