Had a blockbuster debut with Love Story (1981), directed by his father, Rajendra Kumar, but subsequent romantic movies flopped. His father again made Naam (1986), but its his brother-in-law Sanjay Dutt who got the benefits and went on to do a number of similar gangster roles over a long career.
