One of the most prolific Bollywood directors, especially directing romantic movies. In a career spanning almost half century, has directed almost all major Bollywood stars from Rajendra Kumar to Shahurkh Khan.

1959 - 2004

Directed Waqt (1965), the first multi-star Bollywood blockbuster. After a very prolific association with Amitabh Bachchan in 70s, went thru a lean phase during 80s and early 90s when only one movie, Chandni (1989) worked at the box-office. Bounced back after forming another successful association with Shahrukh Khan in Darr (1993), DDLJ (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Mohabbatein (2000) and Veer-Zaara (2004), couple of these movies directed by son, Aditya Chopra.
