Hope Aur Hum (2018)
(Released: May 11, 2018)
Hope and Hum ushers us into the life of Anu Srivastava (Kabir Sajid), a preteen who is so obsessed with cricket that he narrates his life like a cricket commentator. But he's not the only obsessive-compulsive in the Srivastava clan. His grandpa (Naseeruddin Shah) is overtly and irrationally attached to a dilapidated German photocopier that once served as his means of income. His daughter-in-law Aditi (Sonali Kulkarni) and son Neeraj (Aamir Bashir) hope that he sees better sense and accepts that the device has passed its expiry. But the geriatric perhaps connects the device's obsoleteness to his own and clings on to it. "New technology comes, old one becomes useless," mumbles the silver-haired senior who can't let go. Then, he goes on and on. What others find "bekaar", is after all "yaadgar". "Yaadon ki photocopy hain yeh!" he beams. It's almost as if the film's script was summarised in a single page and the rest were merely photocopies.
