Tawaif

Daud(Rishi Kapoor) was a salesman at a book shop and lived in a single room in Ameenabai's chawl. Once he came across a manuscript of a novel written by Kayenat Mirza which he passed on to his boss Suleman. The same night a fearsome goonda named Rahim Shaikh entered his room and threatened him to keep a girl - Sultana(Rati Agnihotri) - at his palace for the night. He was arrested the next day and in the people in the chawl took Sultana to be Dauds wife. On release from jail Rahim Shaikh returned to claim Sultana by by now the locality had accepted her, a tawaif, as Dauds bride and the police rearrested Rahim Shaikh.
