Professor Prabhat Kumar Varma (Raj Babbar) teaches Hindi and Sanskrit, lives a middle-class lifestyle in Bombay along with his widowed mom (Urmila Bhatt), and a sister, Madhu, who is of marriageable age. He is in love with Public Prosecutor, Rajni Deshmukh (Smita Patil), and both hope to get married after Madhu's marriage. Prabhat is concerned about the high level of crime in the city and approaches Police Commissioner Sathe (Chandrasekhar), who in turn, deputes Inspector Dhamle to look into this matter. Inspector Dhamle, who is corrupt, alerts the wrong-doers, ensures that all evidence is erased, and blames Prabhat for wasting his time. Then Professor Lalwani (Dheeraj Kumar)'s sister-in-law, Sudha Advani (Sonika Gill), is abducted, sexually assaulted, and killed. The killer, identified as Suresh Thakur (Dalip Tahil), is arrested and tried in Court, where he is acquitted as he proves that he was in Delhi at the time of the murder. Prabhat and others form a vigilante group and chase criminal elements out of Bharat Nagar, near Andheri, much to the ire of their boss, Jagmohandas (Nana Patekar), an underworld don, who instructs his men to scare Prabhat. About 6 men break into the Varma residence, sexually molest and gang-rape Madhu, kill Mrs. Varma, and brutally beat up Prabhat while he is tied to a chair. Madhu kills herself by jumping off of the terrace of the building. A devastated Prabhat tells the Police that he is unable to identify any of the culprits and then sets about to avenge his family's brutal deaths, kills their assailants one by one and becomes famous as 'Robin Hood', earning the sympathy and support of both victims and Police. Watch what happens when Jagmohandas and Suresh figure out the real identity of 'Robin Hood'.
