This is the story of Rani (Padmini) who was married when she was just a child. Once she grew up, she found out to her horror that she was already a widow and had no rights to put on ornaments or wear fancy clothes, as per the traditions of India in 50s-60s. She decided to devote her life to take care of her blind father by working and earning. She got a job with a drama company but was forced to resign due to misbehavior of the owner. Then she got a job as a typist and thats where she met Raja (Shivaji Ganesan) and they fell in love with each other. But her conservative father and the orthodox society were not ready for her re-marriage. Heart-broken, she decided to end her life by taking poison. Thats when she was saved by a kind-hearted soul, Samar Sen, who helped to change the attitude of her orthodox father and the "bahaar" (Spring) came again into her life.
