With tremendous suffering the parents graduated elder son Sohan to secure for him a lucrative job and honourable place in society. Ceaseless toil and labour cost the father his sight and the mother her health. They even sacrificed their house to marry Sohan. Self-relying younger son Raju's chief ambition in life was to restore his father's sight and to adorn his crippled younger sister Pratima with a lovely Saree. He undertook a hard job in a tea Garden in distant Nirgiri Hills. Sohan was appointed Manager in Rai Bahadur's Mills. But he and his ill-tempered wife Sarju, forgetting their duty to parents, harrassed them and Pratima, making their lives miserable. Sohan's son Kundan became addicted to gambling. Once he stole cash from the house and succeeded in lying the charge on Pratima. The blot of Theft on the daughter was too great a mental affection for the mother to bear- she fell fainted. Raju became restless on hearing about his mother's illness. With difficulty he bought a Saree for Pratima and stated homeward. Unfortunately the Saree and the Railway ticket were stolen en route. He continued the journey on foot. Further up, he was knocke down by a car driven by Sarita, Rai Bahadur's pretty daughter. But Raju was quick to apologise her admitting his own mistake. This at once enthralled him in Sarita's tender heart. On arriving home Raju was shocked to see the humiliation and suffering of the parents and Pratima. Both brother had fight. Sohan appropriated the property and Raju took the parents and Pratima as his proud share and left house. he homeless family took shelter in a temple Inn. Sarita's trusted maid Barkha secured a job for Raju in the Mills through Rai Bahadur's order but Sohan considered him an eyesore. Raju promised a graceful Saree to his beloved sister out of his first pay. With the motive of getting a hold on Rai Bahadur's property, Sarju wanted her brother Barrister Premnath to marry Sarita. Illusioned by tall talk of Premnath, Rai Bahadur gave his conset. Remembering that her choicest Saree entrusted to Pratima for folding had remained with the latter, Sarju chased crippled Pratima upstairs and began to snatch the Saree from her body. The scuffle ended in Pratima's fatal fall. people wanted to hand over the killer Sarju to Police, but the lamenting father forbade them. Raju risked his life and bagged a reward of Rs. 2000/- in a Boxing contest for his fathers treatment. A magnificient Pandal was erected for Premnaths marriage. But who actually turned out to be the Bride?
